  • Albright Grove: Conservation on Tap with Dr. Joesph Clark of the US Geological Services to discuss his long-awaited survey of the elk population in the Smokies. “Between 2001 and 2003, 52 elk were reintroduced to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. How are they doing now? Are they acclimating to tourists and communities? What does the future hold for elk in the southern Appalachians? Lend an ear to Dr. Joseph Clark of the U.S. Geological Survey in Knoxville as he unveils the results of a multi-year study conducted by Clark and his fellow biologists. Clark is also one of the region’s foremost black bear biologists, so perhaps he can share his insights on the booming bear population in east Tennessee.” Proceeds benefit Discover Life in America. Totally free! The event is sponsored by Scofflaw Brewing, who will be on-site with some sweet swag, and partial proceeds from the event will be donated to Young Williams Animal Center to help out with all their shelter pets in our area (they are currently very overcrowded). Sign ups start at 1:00pm, and there are prizes for a few different categories of costumes. In case of rain, we will hold the event inside.
